This story was a nicely paced read. It had a great mystery/suspense hook to it. Who had made young Mr.Bradford disappear from the streets of London?Emma was a well developed character and consistent to herself throughout. She couldn't be either 'mousey' or 'missish' and have survived helping to raise her three younger siblings. She generally was dutiful to her family and to the conventions of society. But underneath it all, she was well read, quietly assertive, and aware of what she had to offer to others.I liked Donovan Connor, Duke of Lowe, who long ago tired of the society sycophants cozying up to him to obtain the benefits of his title. When he found a correspondent who was not impressed or intimidated by him, he clutched that connection tightly, even though they had never met, and she had no idea of his true identity.Teaming up to attempt to solve the mystery of her brother's sudden disappearance, they learn about the people behind their letters and deepen their connection. Donovan has to learn to trust that Emma will continue to like the man more than the title. Emma needs to deal with her rapidly approaching marriage to a man she does not much like.But the realities that are exposed when her brother is finally discovered could tear their lives to shreds.I received an ARC copy of this story from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.
